The Highway 14 Partnership's goals are two-fold: complete the four-lane expansion
of Highway 14 between Rochester and Mankato by 2008, and complete an Environmental
Impact Statement for possible four-lane expansion between Mankato and New Ulm as
soon as possible. Highway 14 expansion began in the 1960s near Rochester, and under
current funding plans, constructing four lanes to Mankato could take another 15 to
20 years. Finishing the corridor to New Ulm could take even longer.
The Highway 14 Partnership lobbies actively on both the state and federal levels.
The Partnership initiated legislation in the 2000 Minnesota Legislative Session,
successfully obtaining an equal division of new money between Greater Minnesota
and the metropolitan area that included an additional $14 million for Highway 14.
The Partnership is also seeking at least $32 million in High Priority Project funding
for Highway 14 in the federal transportation reauthorization bill in 2003.
The Honorable Mayor Gary Zellmer,
of North Mankato, serves as President of the Highway 14 Partnership.
